Sundries
The first attempt I made to write my own comic came immediately after leaving art school. I spent that year sleeping on my friends couch, smoking pot and spinning my wheels through a ponderous 250 page script I called Space Bear 54. I grew increasingly frustrated at my inability to make any real headway on the project. The reasons would eventually became clear to me as I vocabulary like “work flow” “time management” and “sobriety” entered my lexicon tool box.
During the time I was writing these books I was working at an Art Program that supported adults with disabilities. I would ride my bike to various studiosacross Portland and do art with clients that were interested. During my down time I would work on Sundries.
Each panel was painted with watercolor on a 5x5 inch piece of Bristol that I kept in a tackle box in my back pack. Issue One was published at the Independent Publishers Resource Center in Portland, Oregon. The other two issues I was unsatisfied with and never published them. Over time though I have some to appreciate their value and am pleased to share them with you here. Enjoy!
