INT. DAY: HAL HOLBROOK MIDDLE SCHOOL CLASSROOM

JUDY TURNKEY sits on the front of her desk, addressing the class. She is a large and imposing figure, with a tall beehive hair-do, a billowy white sweater and thick white Marge Simpson-like pearls. She smiles a savage rictus that leaves gaping holes by her molars showing her bridge work. 

JUDY:

“Good Morning Class. I am Judy Turnkey. You will call me JUDY TURNKEY. Everyone will greet me good morning upon my entry, every day...and be sure to say my name at the end. Now, let us give it a try, shall we?”

PANEL 1:

OVER THE SHOULDER SHOT of JUDY TURNKEY addressing the STUDENTS. All greeting their new instructor obediently. All that is, except two students in the back row, RUS and NAN who are  leaning close to each other in quiet deliberation. RUS is a lanky goof with a bowl haircut and thick, messy eyebrows. NAN is a short, weasley scamp with a thin mullet and popping bulging eyes that dart this way and that. 

STUDENTS:

“GOOD MORNING, JUDY TURNKEY!”

JUDY TURNKEY:

“Very good Children! You are to greet me like that every morning when I…”

PANEL 3:

CLOSE UP of RUS and NAN speaking

RUS:

“If the guy isn't Zelda, why is the game called The Legend of Zelda?”

NAN:

“I don't know man, I’m telling you though, Link is the guy,  Zelda is the princess, she's the one you’re rescuing.”

PANEL 4:

CLOSE UP of JUDY TURNKEY with dead eyes, but keeping that wide grimace.

  JUDY TURNKEY:

“Gentlemen. Am I BORING you?”

PANEL 5:

MIDSHOT RUS looking down at his hands, NAN looking up at the ceiling carelessly.

NAN (through clenched teeth):

“Well she's not exactly the Ultimate Warrior.”

PANEL 6,7,8:

A series of CLOSE UP’s of RUS bursting out in laughter, looking up to the ceiling, tears flying out of his eyes, slamming his fist on the desk and finally burying his head in his folded arms.

MEDIUM SHOT of  JUDY TURNKEY pulling a desk towards her own. She looks contorted and on the verge of losing her composure. Perhaps a hair in her perfect bee hive is out of place and the small of her back is showing. Pantyline?

   JUDY TURNKEY:

“I want you to (ugh) sit right...here.”

OVER the SHOULDER SHOT of RUS, looking at the desk placed to the left of   JUDY TURNKEY’S desk, facing the class.

“Sit Rus…”

“Many of you might have seen me around town, and yes it’s true, I am from our wonderful little village, but what you may not have known is that this is my first year teaching at Hal Holbrook Middle School.”

  JUDY TURNKEY:

“I am the teacher, so it is important that you always follow my directions, and listen when I am speaking…

  JUDY TURNKEY:

“Be enthusiastic, but do not interrupt.”

“...and can I just say, thank you children? Thank you for making my first year as a teacher such a fulfilling one. It has not been an easy journey for me I assure you, but this experience has brought me more joy than working at Front Row Video ever could.”

“Do not turn from your emotions children, for it will leave you empty.”

“Rus and Nan can you please come join us.”

HIGH ANGLE SHOT of a parking lot on The 4th of July. American fanfare fly throughout the little downtown street. In the far distance on Main Street, children walk in a parade with sparklers, adults wearing red white and blue top hats and vests. Teenage RUS and his girlfriend, BETA walk along with their other friends, JOS and CHELLY. They are all laughing while walking to CHELLY’S  car. On the other side of the parking lot, LEW LAKER, CARL JUNSEN and 2 other MEATHEADS are drinking beers on the hood of beat up ‘86 camaro. They watch the friends walk to CHELLY’S CAR. 

PANEL 2:

COWBOY SHOT of BETA and RUS walking together. CHELLY’S CAR in the FOREGROUND. CHELLY at the driver's door, JOS as the back door.

RUS:

“You guys wanna go hang out at Borders?”

JOS:

“I’m down.”

JUDY TURNKEY:

LONG SHOT of RUS recoiled on the step of the fire escape as JUDY TURNKEY descends upon him.

JUDY TURNKEY:

“tck-tck-tck.”

“...now that was really something.”

PANEL 3:

MEDIUM SHOT of RUS sitting now with JUDY TURNKEY crawling next to him, contorted and inhuman, her head twisted to impossable angles, her teeth bared.

JUDY TURNKEY:

“I mean I always knew that you would grow up to be a loser…”

PANEL 4:

CLOSE UP of RUS turned twords us, eyes shut, welled with tears. JUDY TURNKEY’S talking to the back of his head.

JUDY TURNKEY:

“...but a coward?”

JUDY TURNKEY:

“...tck-tck-tck…”

MEDIUM SHOT of RUS sitting. JUDY TURNKEY on the other side of him. He has turned his head away from her, crunching his face into a ball, tears running down his cheeks. He is in utter agony, but does not bother to get up...because after all, this is all in his head.

JUDY TURNKEY:

“What do you think is happening to her right now Rus? As you sit here crying like a little bitch...I’m sure they’ll just smack her around a little SHe’s tough….she can handle it.”

PANEL 6:

LOW ANGLE SHOT RUS clutching his head, JUDY TURNKEY looms over him, her multitude of spider hybrid arms reach out around him. A tinger on her chin as she contemplates.

JUDY TURNKEY:

“But now that I think of it,  you know what's more than likely.  They’ve dragged her off behind some dumpster to My Country Tis of Thee her sweet little ass.”

GROUND SHOT Rus walking away from the step

RUS:

“I gotta go back.”

JUDY TURNKEY:

“HAHAHA for what RUS? They all already know you’re a coward, you'll just...wait.”

CLOSE UP of JUDY TURNKEY smiling, her eyes wild.

MEDIUM SHOT of JON on an old PC playing a shooter. He is dressed in an old goodwill suit. MATT dressed a little more casually, stands over him watching JON play the game.

JON:

“They used the DOOM engine and ended up making a better game.”

MATT:

“It’s pretty smooth, but better than Doom?”

PANEL 3:

POINT OF VIEW of the computer. JON staring at us intently, MATT leaning in. In the BACKGROUND the buzzer is going off.

JON:

“Guess it depends on how you feel about Robert Jordan.”

SFX(door buzzer):

“Urrr.”

PANEL 4:

CLOSE UP of the game JON is playing. A very dated first person fantasy shooter.

JON (off shot)

“Can you get that?”

PANEL 5:

CLOSE UP of MATT pushing the button on the buzzer, but still focused on the game.

MATT:

“Hello?”

Medium shot of intercom and Matt still holding on to the button. MATT looking away anoyed

RUS(OFF SHOT):

“Hey Jon, it’s Rus. Just seeing if your up for hanging out.”

MATT(mutter):

“Christ…”

POINT OF VIEW SHOT from the computer, JON still focused on his game, MATT in BACKGROUND with his hand off the intercom. 

MATT:

“He’s just going to bum smokes all day then try to crash on your floor.”

JON:

“S’fine.”

MATT:

“Asshead can’t even tell us apart”

“M’kay.”

RUS:

“Oh hey Matt I didn't know you were here.

“Yeah, it spans from The Eye of the World, to The Dragon Reborn.”

RUS:

“Amazing.”

“Think I could get one of those smokes off ya Jon?”

RUS:

“No man, I totally get…”

WIDE SHOT of RUS standing on the marble steps of JON’S apartment building, his breath billowing out as steam. Snow is falling and icey frost clings to everything, parked cars are buried in white powder, narrow paths are cut where the sidewalks should be. Bundled up pedestrians trudge through the snow.

RUS:

“Ok larry. Yeah. Heh. Sounds good, well talk to you then. Okay. THanks again Larry...really. Bye.”
